Rules the platform enforces
Who can write one
- Only after a job paid through Hyyryn. A review opens once the job is finished, or once a dispute about it has been decided, whichever way it went. Not while a dispute is open, and never for work arranged anywhere else.
- The homeowner reviews the tradesperson. From 1 to 5 whole stars, three short scores if she likes (the quality of the work, reliability, communication), and up to 2,000 characters in her own words.
- The tradesperson gives feedback on the homeowner, privately. It is kept by Hyyryn and never published or shown on any page.
- Once each. One review per person per job, from a signed-in account.
- Everyone is asked, the same way. Early on the morning after a job is finished, or after a dispute about it is decided, both people on it are asked, once: on their account, and by email unless they have turned review emails off. A tradesperson cannot choose who is asked.
The sealed fortnight
When it is shown
A review stays sealed until both people on the job have written, or until 14 days after the job finished (or after a dispute about it was decided), whichever comes first. Then it is shown as it was written. Neither of you writes with the other’s words in front of you, and nobody answers a review with one of their own.
- The job is finishedBoth of you are askedThe next morning, the same way for every job.
- Each of you writesIt is sealedThe tradesperson is told a review is waiting, never its stars or its words.
- Both have writtenShown at onceOr 14 days after the job finished, or after a dispute about it was decided, if one of you has not written.
- After thatShown as soon as it is writtenA review is still welcome once the fortnight is over.
Nothing chosen for you
What you see
- Every review that is up, newest first, on the tradesperson’s profile. We do not hide, reorder or pick reviews, good or bad.
- The writer by first name and the initial of their surname, with the job it was for.
- The tradesperson’s reply, beneath it. They can reply once, and a reply never changes the review.
- We never edit a review. It stays as written, or it comes down for one of the reasons in section 8.
- Nobody can pay to have a review shown, moved or taken down, and a paid plan changes nothing about reviews: not which are shown, not the score, not their order.
A number with its count, or none
How a score is shown
- Always with its count. A score never stands on its own; it reads, for example, “4.8 from 12 reviews”.
- From the third review. Until then a tradesperson shows “New on Hyyryn” and how many reviews there are, and every review is still listed. One or two reviews cannot speak for a whole business.
- With the spread beside it. How many gave 5 stars, 4, 3, 2 and 1, and the averages of the three short scores where homeowners gave them.
- What counts. Every review that is up and has been shown. A review taken down leaves the score at once.
- In search. “Highest rated” uses the average drawn towards four stars while there are few reviews, so one 5-star review does not outrank fifty of 4.9. The filters by stars count only a score that is shown.
For everyone on Hyyryn
Never allowed
- Writing a review of a job you did not have, or of someone who was not on it.
- Writing, or getting someone else to write, a review of yourself, your business or a competitor.
- Offering or accepting anything for a review: money, a discount, free work or a prize. Hyyryn never does.
- Asking for a good review in return for something, or threatening anyone over a review.
- Making a refund, the end of a dispute or anything else depend on a review being written, changed or taken down.
- Asking only the customers you expect to be happy. Hyyryn asks everyone, the same way.
An account that does any of these can be suspended or closed, and the reviews involved taken down. Fake reviews, reviews given for a reward that is not made clear, and publishing reviews in a misleading way are banned in the UK by the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.
Reasonable and proportionate
How we check
- Built in. Only the two people on a job paid through Hyyryn, once each, from a signed-in account.
- Automatic checks. Every new review is checked for patterns that suggest it is not genuine, such as one sent from the tradesperson’s own internet connection, or several arriving at once. A check never takes a review down: it puts it in front of a person, who decides within 5 working days, as with a report.
- Every report. Decided by a person, with a written reason, kept on the record.
- Written down and looked at again. Our assessment of the risks to reviews on Hyyryn is reviewed every six months, and this policy every year and whenever the law or the way reviews work changes. Last updated 17 October 2026.
If a review is wrong
Report one
The tradesperson a review is about can report it from Reviews on his dashboard. The homeowner who wrote it can ask us to take it down from Reviews on her account. Anyone else can tell us about a review with the Report link beneath it on a profile, or by writing to support@hyyryn.com.
- You report itWith a reason, in a sentence
- A person looks at itWithin 5 working daysIt stays up while they do.
- We decide, and say whyIt stays up, or it comes downYou are told what we decided and why, by email. If it comes down, the person who wrote it and the tradesperson are told too. The decision and its reason are kept on the record.
- If you disagreeTell us, or complainHow to complain
If you believe a review defames you, write to support@hyyryn.com with “Defamation” in the subject, saying what is untrue and why. We pass your complaint to the person who wrote it within 48 hours and ask for their answer by the fifth day, then follow the steps the law sets out, and tell you what happens at each one.
Eight reasons, and only these
What comes down
Taken down when
- It is not based on a genuine experience of this job.
- It was written in return for something, and that was not made clear.
- It is not about this job or the person who did it.
- It contains someone’s personal details.
- It threatens, harasses or abuses someone.
- It breaks the law.
- The person who wrote it asked us to take it down.
- Someone said it was defamatory and the person who wrote it did not answer.
Not taken down for
- Being negative, or giving one star.
- The tradesperson disagreeing with it. They can reply beneath it.
- A dispute about the job, whichever way it was decided.
- Being short.
- Anyone offering to pay, from either side.
