In the job
Posting a job
How does Hyyryn work?
Post your job for free and read the prices that come back. When you accept one and pay, Stripe holds the money against the job: not Hyyryn, and not the tradesperson. It is released when you sign the work off, or when your time to check it runs out. If something is wrong, raise a dispute before you sign off and the money stays where it is until it is decided.
What does it cost me?
Nothing to post a job, read the prices or message a tradesperson. You pay the price you agree and nothing is added to it. Hyyryn's fee is five per cent, taken from the tradesperson when the money is released, not from you.
How do I post a job?
You need an account. From My jobs, press Post a job and say what needs doing, the area, the trade (or "Not sure"), when you need it and, if you like, a budget and up to six photographs. Nothing is agreed and nothing is charged until you accept a price.
Do you cover my area?
Hyyryn is open in England and Wales: a job can be posted from any postcode there, and it reaches the tradespeople whose own travelling distance covers it, nearest first. Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are not open yet; write to hello@hyyryn.com and we will tell you when they are. Hyyryn is new in most places, so there may be few trades near you at first: post the job anyway, and it is there for every trade who joins nearby.
Distances and districts use Ordnance Survey’s open data (Code-Point Open). Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database right 2026. Contains Royal Mail data © Royal Mail copyright and database right 2026. Contains National Statistics data © Crown copyright and database right 2026.
What happens after I post it?
Tradespeople in that trade who cover your area see it and can send a price. Each price arrives on the job in My jobs, and you are told by email. You can have as many prices as come in, and turning one down costs nothing.
What should I put in it? Can I add photographs?
Up to six photographs, 10 MB each. Three usually covers it: the problem, where it sits, and anything already tried. In the words, be plain and specific (age, make, when it started, what you have tried), because anything a tradesperson has to guess at gets priced as a risk.
Who can see my address?
Before you accept a price, a tradesperson sees your first name and the district part of your postcode, not your street. Your full postcode goes only to the one whose price you accept, when you accept. Hyyryn never asks for your street: you give it to them yourself, in messages.
Can I post more than one job?
Yes, as many as you like, and each one is free.
Is there a limit on how big a job can be?
For now, yes: a price on Hyyryn can be up to £1,500, while payment protection is new. A tradesperson cannot send a larger price, and a listing cannot show one. Larger jobs will open once it has run for a while.
How do I get listed?
Create a tradesperson account (free), set up payouts with Stripe, then post a service: what you do, where, and how you price it. Homeowners can ask you for a price from the listing. No one can pay to be shown first.
What does Hyyryn take from me?
Five per cent of the job, taken when the money is released to you, and never more than £500 however large the work. Nothing to join, list or quote, no lead fees, and no subscription needed to find work. Plus is an optional plan for the business around the work.
Do I need to be a limited company?
No. Sole traders and ordinary partnerships can join. Leave the company number blank when you register, because they do not have one.
What registrations and insurance do I need?
Any registration the law requires for the work you offer, such as Gas Safe for gas work and Part P for notifiable electrical work. Public liability insurance is not a legal requirement, but on Hyyryn you need it to price gas, heating, electrical and roofing jobs, and any job of £1,000 or more: at least £1 million of cover, with the certificate checked by us and in date. Employers' liability is usually required by law once you employ anyone.
Which areas and trades can I cover?
You choose your trades and how far you will travel. Each listing carries its area and homeowners see it before they ask you, so you are not asked to price jobs you will not drive to.
How do I build a good profile?
A clear photograph of your face, not a logo. Name each listing after the job rather than the trade, and say plainly what it covers and what it does not. Add photographs of your own finished work, not stock pictures.
Can I bring my reviews from other sites?
No. Reviews on Hyyryn come only from jobs completed and paid for through Hyyryn, so every one is tied to a real job.
Choosing a price
Where do I see my jobs and the prices?
On your dashboard: every job you have posted, whose move it is, and the prices that have come in.
How do I know who I am choosing?
Each price links to the tradesperson's profile. It shows what was checked and is in date: their right to work, the registrations and insurance a person at Hyyryn has looked at, their company when the register names them, and their record of jobs on Hyyryn. You can also look up any limited company on the public register, free, with Hyyryn Records.
Are they registered and insured?
A person at Hyyryn looks at the registrations (such as Gas Safe) and insurance a tradesperson adds, and their profile shows only those that were checked and are in date. For gas, heating, electrical and roofing work, and any job of £1,000 or more, a tradesperson cannot send a price at all until their own public liability insurance (at least £1 million) has been checked by us and is in date. That is their insurance, not Hyyryn's: Hyyryn does not insure the work. Not built yet: stopping a tradesperson without the registration from pricing work that needs it, so for gas or notifiable electrical work, look for it on their profile before you accept a price.
Can I message them, or ask for a visit, before I choose?
Yes. Message anyone you like before you commit to anything, free. For work that cannot be priced from a description, ask for a visit first, and they come and price what is there.
How do I compare prices? Do I need more than one?
Ask as many tradespeople as you like. Each price is kept exactly as it was written, and getting one or turning one down costs nothing.
Is the price fixed? Does it include VAT?
The price you accept is the price you pay; nothing is added by Hyyryn or by the card. A tradesperson's price is for the whole job, including parts, and VAT if they charge it.
I've chosen someone. What happens next?
Accept their price and pay. The amount is charged to your card and held at Stripe against the job, and they see your full postcode. Give them your street in messages. Before they start, they photograph the space and you agree the photographs: that is the start of the job.
I've changed my mind.
If the work has not started, you get the full amount back to the card you paid with. How quickly it shows is up to your bank.
Where do I see my jobs?
On your dashboard: every job you have priced or are working on, whose move it is, and by when.
Does sending a price cost anything?
No. No lead fee, no credits and no charge per price. You pay only the five per cent when money is released to you.
Do I add VAT?
Your price is for the whole job, including parts, and VAT if you charge it. The homeowner pays exactly that figure. If you are not VAT registered, you cannot charge VAT.
Can I ask for a deposit, or money for materials first?
The homeowner pays the whole price when they accept it and Stripe holds it, so you can see the money is there before you start. Money paid outside Hyyryn is not covered by payment protection.
The customer wants to pay me directly, or in cash.
Payment protection, disputes and the job record cover only work arranged and paid through Hyyryn. A job paid in cash or by bank transfer is between you and the customer, and we cannot step in.
Paying
Where is the money while the job is on?
At Stripe. The homeowner's card is charged when they accept a price and pay, and the amount is held at Stripe against the job. It is released to the tradesperson when the homeowner signs the work off, or when the time to check it runs out.
When do I pay?
When you accept a price. The full amount is charged to your card then, and Stripe holds it until it is released. Posting a job and getting prices takes nothing from your card.
How can I pay?
By card, through Stripe: Visa, Mastercard, Maestro or American Express, debit or credit. Bank transfer and direct debit are not offered, because payment protection depends on money that can be held and returned.
Who holds my money? Is it safe?
It is held at Stripe, Hyyryn's payment provider. Stripe Payments UK Limited is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority as an electronic money institution (reference 900461).
Does Hyyryn add a fee to my price?
No. You pay the price you agree and nothing else, and paying by card carries no surcharge. Our fee is five per cent, taken from the tradesperson's payment when it is released.
Why has money left my account before the work started?
Accepting a price and paying charges the full amount to your card: it is a payment, not a hold. Stripe keeps it against your job, and it does not reach the tradesperson until you release it or your time to check runs out.
Can I pay in stages, or pay a deposit?
Not at the moment. The whole price is paid when you accept it and held until it is released. Paying for a larger job in instalments is being explored; it is not available yet.
Can I pay the tradesperson directly instead?
You can, but payment protection covers only money paid through Hyyryn. Paid any other way, we cannot hold it, freeze it, or step into a disagreement about it.
How long does a refund take?
A refund goes back to the card you paid with. How quickly it shows depends on your bank, usually a few working days.
Can I get a receipt?
Yes. A receipt is emailed when your payment is secured, and every receipt is kept in your account.
Is there a guarantee beyond payment protection?
No. Hyyryn does not guarantee the work itself; payment protection is what we offer. Your statutory rights are unaffected, and Citizens Advice gives free, independent guidance.
When am I paid?
When the homeowner signs the work off, or when their time to check it runs out. The money is then transferred by Stripe to the account you connected for payouts.
How does payment protection work for me?
The homeowner pays the whole price when they accept yours, and Stripe holds it, so you can see it is there before you start. It is released to you, less our fee, when they sign the work off, or automatically when their time to check runs out.
What is the fee, worked through?
Five per cent of the job, capped at £500. On a £2,000 job you receive £1,900; on £12,000 the cap applies and you receive £11,500. If a dispute ends in a split, the five per cent applies only to the part that reaches you.
When does the money reach my bank?
Release starts the payout straight away. When it lands is set by Stripe's schedule and your bank, typically two to three working days.
What do I need to set up to get paid?
A Stripe payout account in your own name. You enter your identity and bank details on Stripe's own pages, in about five minutes, and Stripe holds them, not Hyyryn. It is free.
Will I get an invoice for the fee?
Your fee, and any VAT on it, is shown on your monthly statement, and statements are ready for your accountant.
The work
What if the work is not right?
Do not sign it off. Raise a dispute from the job and the money stays with Stripe until it is decided. Whoever did not raise it has four days to answer, and both of you can add photographs, the messages and the scope you agreed while it is open.
How do I raise a dispute?
Open the job and raise a dispute before you sign off. Choose what is wrong, describe it and add up to six photographs; the messages on the job come with it. Send it, and the money freezes straight away.
Who decides a dispute, and how long does it take?
It is decided on what you have both filed: released, refunded, or split where part of the work was done properly. Smaller disputes that neither side contests can get an automatic first decision; the rest are decided by a person, and you can always ask a person to look again. If it is not decided within fourteen days, it is escalated and a person takes it on; the money stays frozen until it is decided.
The tradesperson is late, or hasn't come.
If the work has not started, the money has not reached them, and you can have it back in full. Raise it from the job, or write to us below.
The tradesperson asked me to pay outside Hyyryn.
Only money paid through Hyyryn is held at Stripe and can be frozen in a dispute. Money paid any other way is not covered.
Something was damaged, or someone was hurt.
Raise a dispute from the job before you sign off, and choose "Damage to property". It is decided by a person.
Can I cancel once the work has started?
Raise a dispute from the job. Where part of the work was done properly and part was not, the money can be split between you.
A homeowner raised a dispute. What now?
The money stays with Stripe and goes to nobody until it is decided. You have four days to answer with your photographs, the messages and the scope that was agreed. Once you have answered, a person decides it on what both of you filed.
The customer has cancelled.
If they cancel before the work starts, their money goes back to them and no fee is taken from you, because nothing was released.
The customer isn't answering, or won't let me in.
If the homeowner says nothing, your finished photographs count as agreed after 48 hours and the money is released at the end of their time to check. Either of you can raise a dispute while the money is held.
Signing it off
What does signing off mean?
It tells us you are happy with the finished work, and the money Stripe is holding goes to the tradesperson. You can do it as soon as you have agreed the finished photographs.
How long do I have to check the work?
Three days on a job under £500, five days at £500 and above, counted from the moment the finished photographs are agreed. Sign it off sooner if you are happy. If you do nothing, the money is released when the time runs out.
What should I check before I sign off?
Compare the finished photographs with the ones from before. Check the work is what you agreed, the place was left clean, and any certificate is attached and in your name. If something is not right, raise a dispute instead, because signing off releases the money.
Can I sign off part of the job?
You cannot release part of the money yourself. Where part of the work was done properly and part was not, a dispute can split it between you.
Can I raise a dispute after signing off?
No. A dispute can be raised only while the money is still held, and signing off releases it.
When does the homeowner's time to check start?
When the finished photographs are agreed: three days on a job under £500, five days at £500 and above. Add the photographs as soon as the work is done.
The homeowner hasn't signed off. When am I paid?
You are still paid. Your finished photographs count as agreed if the homeowner says nothing for 48 hours; their time to check then runs, and the money is released automatically unless a dispute is raised. The job needs agreed photographs from before the work, too.
Afterwards
How do I leave a review?
Once the job is finished and paid for through Hyyryn, review it once, from My jobs. Stars alone are fine; words are optional. It is published under your first name and last initial, and the tradesperson can reply once, in public.
Can I change my review?
No. A review cannot be edited once it is sent, and a tradesperson cannot edit yours.
How do you keep reviews genuine?
Only the people on a job completed and paid for through Hyyryn can review it, once, and only about each other. Nobody can pay to have a review written, hidden or removed.
A problem has appeared after I signed off.
Once the money is released, a dispute can no longer be raised on the job. Your statutory rights are unaffected, and Citizens Advice can help.
How do I complain about a tradesperson?
If it is about the work or the tradesperson on a job (not done, done badly, unfinished, or they did not come), raise a dispute from the job while the money is held. That freezes it.
Can a tradesperson be removed from Hyyryn?
Yes. We can suspend or close any account that breaks our terms, acts fraudulently or puts other people at risk.
Is a complaint the same as a dispute?
No. A dispute is about the work or the tradesperson and is raised from the job; it freezes the money while it is decided. A complaint is about Hyyryn itself: the platform, a decision we made, or how we handled something. It does not move any money.
How do I complain about Hyyryn?
Write to us below with the topic "A complaint about Hyyryn", or email support@hyyryn.com with "Complaint" in the subject. We acknowledge it within 2 working days and answer within 20. Where to go if we do not put it right is on the Complaints page.
How do I get reviews?
From homeowners, on jobs completed and paid for through Hyyryn. Every review is tied to a real job.
I've had an unfair review.
You can reply once, in public, under it. Being unkind is not, on its own, a reason to remove a review. If it breaks our reviews policy, report it from Reviews on your dashboard: a person decides within 5 working days.

What is an evidence pack?
On the Landlord and Agent plans, one PDF for a home that you can give to a council, a tribunal, a deposit scheme or a tenant: its details and certificates, every job done there through Hyyryn with its photographs, what was paid and the log, with an index that links to each part. A ZIP of the original files comes with it, with how to check each one. A pack shows what Hyyryn held at the moment it was made and never changes; make another to bring it up to date. Packs already made stay downloadable if the plan ends, and are kept six years.
What are approval limits?
On the Agent plan, an owner or admin can give a manager a limit. A price over it is not taken on: it goes to the owners and admins, and one of them who is not that manager approves it, or refuses it with a reason. What is approved is that price, at that amount, until the price’s own date or 30 days; a new price is a new request. A job posted as an emergency can go ahead and be confirmed afterwards, unless the organisation turns that off. Nothing is approved from an email, and a request is never taken as approved because nobody answered.
What does the contractor watch cover?
On the Landlord and Agent plans, each contractor you use that is a company is read on the Companies House register every morning. A proposal to strike it off, a status other than active, a notice in The Gazette or an insolvency case is sent to you at once; filings due or overdue come together once a week, or not at all if you choose. Each line is the register’s own words with the day it was read, and Companies House does not check that what companies file is accurate. It does not cover sole traders, insurance, Gas Safe or electrical scheme registration, county court judgments, personal insolvency or disqualified directors: check those yourself before each job.
Is an organisation told about my company?
If you confirmed your company number on Hyyryn and an organisation on the Landlord or Agent plan uses you, it is told when the public Companies House register shows something new about your company, in the register’s own words. So is a homeowner who takes on your price, until a year after the job ends. Nothing else about you is passed on, and a sole trader is not watched. If a price of yours is waiting for an organisation’s approval, you are told it is waiting.
Can I keep records of jobs I find myself?
With Plus, yes. Own jobs, a tab in your dashboard, keeps what you did and when, your notes, and photographs before, during and after, taken on your phone or sent from a computer. Each one is received and fingerprinted by Hyyryn as it arrives, which helps you show what you did and when; a note is never edited, and a correction is added under it. You decide how long each record is kept, 6 years or 15 for building work, and you can export or delete it at any time. Give your customer the notice shown there before you start: for their details, you decide and Hyyryn keeps them for you.
I have been invited to an organisation
Open the link in the email and sign in, or create an account, with the address it was sent to. You pay nothing for being in an organisation; any plan is paid for by its owner. The invitation lasts for the time the email states.
Your data and privacy
How do I get a copy of my data, or have it deleted?
Write to us below with the topic "My data and privacy", or to support@hyyryn.com, and say which you want. A person replies to confirm it is you, and we answer within 30 days. Payment records are kept for the period HMRC requires.
What do you hold about me?
Your account details, your jobs, prices, messages, photographs and reviews, and your payments. For tradespeople, identity and credentials too. We use it to run the marketplace, take and release payments through Stripe, decide disputes and meet legal duties.
Do you see my card details?
No. Your card is handled by Stripe, and Hyyryn never stores card numbers.
Do you sell my data?
No. We will never sell your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes.
What cookies do you use?
Signing in is kept in your browser’s own storage, not a cookie, and a few choices you make are remembered on your device. Hyyryn sets no advertising or analytics cookies. Stripe and Cloudflare set their own, for payments and security., Cloudflare and, if you sign in with it, Google set their own, for payments, security and signing in.
Checks and Records
Are tradespeople checked?
Yes, in three ways. Nobody is shown to you or can send a price until their right to work in the UK has been checked. A person at Hyyryn looks at the registrations (such as Gas Safe) and insurance a tradesperson adds, and a profile shows only those that were checked and are in date. Stripe checks their identity and bank before they can be paid.
Not built yet: stopping a tradesperson without Gas Safe or Part P from pricing gas or electrical work. Until it is, look for the registration on their profile before you accept a price for that work.
What is Hyyryn Records?
A free tool that reads a UK limited company's public record at Companies House and The Gazette. Every line shows when it happened, when we read it, and a link to the source. You do not need an account to look a company up.
What does Records show?
The company's name, number, status, type, date of incorporation, registered office and nature of business; when its accounts and confirmation statement are due; any insolvency or charges; and from The Gazette, insolvency notices and proposals to strike it off.
Does a clean result mean Hyyryn checked the company?
No. Records shows what the public register says. Companies House does not check what companies send it, and an empty result is not a clean bill of health.
Why can't I find a tradesperson on Records?
Records covers UK limited companies only. Sole traders and ordinary partnerships do not file at Companies House, so there is no record to read, and that does not mean anything is wrong.
What does Watch a company do?
It keeps a company on your account. Every morning we read the register for it, and when a filing falls due within 30 days or goes overdue, a notice is published in The Gazette, or a strike-off is proposed, it is in your notifications. When you hire a trade whose company is on the register, that company is watched for you, free, from the price you take on until a year after the job ends. A tradesperson on Plus can also choose up to 10 companies of their own, such as a main contractor or a supplier. Sole traders are not on the register, and a quiet register does not mean a company is safe. You can turn the notices off in your settings.
How do I link my company to my profile?
On Your checks, add your company number. We read the company's name from the register and you confirm it is yours. Your profile then shows the number with a link to its public record, and the record on Records says the company is on Hyyryn.
The information about my company is wrong.
If our copy does not match the register, tell us and we will read it again and correct it, free. If the register itself is wrong, only the company can correct it, at Companies House.
How do I add my registrations and insurance?
From Verification on your dashboard. Add each registration and policy, and see where each one stands.
